Vancouver Tesla driver thanked by police after stolen vehicle incident

We’ve seen many stories about Tesla drivers being at the centre of various accidents or other incidents, but the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) is expressing gratitude for one after a dangerous situation.

According to the VPD, the driver of a stolen Dodge Charger crashed into two vehicles but was unable to escape due to the driver of one of the vehicles, the Tesla driver.

The VPD is now recommending charges.

The situation unfolded on June 23 at around 7 a.m. near Kingsway and Nanaimo.

Police say that just after 7 a.m., the Dodge Charger driver collided with a Kia and a Tesla.

“When officers arrived, they found the Tesla driver restraining the suspect from the stolen vehicle,” VPD said.

Later, police learned that the driver of the Dodge Charger was impaired and was attempting to flee the scene before he was stopped by the good Samaritan.

“Further investigation revealed the Dodge Charger had been reported stolen, and the suspect was prohibited from driving Canada-wide,” VPD said.

Following the incident, the suspect was treated for minor injuries. Meanwhile, police thanked the Vancouver Tesla driver for assisting.

“Charges of possession of property obtained by crime, driving while disqualified, driving while prohibited, and breach of probation have been recommended to Crown Counsel,” VPD said.
