Vancouver’s new coffee and pastry window is in a totally unexpected location

Hitting the pub at 10 a.m. might not be your first thought for weekend to-dos in Vancouver, but the folks over at Hero’s Welcome are looking to change that with a new cafe pop-up in the form of a takeout window.

The takeout window is a collaboration between Hero’s Welcome and Myra Maston, who is best known for her work at the now-closed Ubunto Canteen, where she supplied the restaurant with all of its bread and baked goods needs.

On the menu, you can find a variety of sweet and savoury treats like fresh focaccia, cookies, and more. Plus, they’re also serving up pour-overs and drip coffee for your morning caffeine fix.

The takeout window is open Friday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. or until sold out.

Hero’s Welcome first opened its doors in 2021 inside a long-time former Main Street Army, Navy & Air Force veterans club, which closed in 2019. The pub showcases a range of B.C. draught and craft beer, including a custom Hero’s Lager brewed by Phillips Brewing Co., along with some drool-worthy-looking house sandwiches made with local ingredients from executive chef Monroe Webb.

While the takeout window is only open on weekends, Hero’s Welcome is open Monday to Thursday from 4 p.m. to midnight, Friday and Saturday from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m., and Sunday from 3 p.m. until late.
