It was over two years ago when Dished first reported on Saijo Handroll, a new hand roll restaurant coming to Vancouver’s Kitsilano neighbourhood. It was supposed to open beside Their There in the spring of last year.
Saijo actually originated from another concept under the Jinya parent group’s umbrella, Robata Jinya. That brand offers sushi, kushiyaki, and ramen.
However, that never happened, and the future of the handroll restaurant was unclear. Now, a new tenant has moved into the space, and they plan to open their own restaurant called Kagura.
“The name Kagura comes from the ancient Japanese word meaning a dance of gratitude and harmony dedicated to the divine,” wrote the restaurant on Instagram. “For us, it represents more than tradition — it’s about bringing that same sense of grace, balance, and appreciation into everyday life through food and hospitality.”

While details on the exact menu have yet to be announced, Kagura shared that it will serve an assortment of hand rolls and tempura.
As for an opening date, Kagura promises that it is almost ready to open, but not much else is known about the restaurant.
