Popular 30-year-old Asian grocery chain opens new Metro Vancouver location

It’s safe to say that there has been an increase in Asian grocery stores opening throughout Metro Vancouver. Just look at the new PriceSmart and Smart N Save locations, in addition to T&T’s soon-to-open 55,000 sq. ft. store. Now, another Asian Supermarket has joined the fray, and it’s from a nearly 30-year-old chain.
After reporting on it earlier this year, Hannam’s new Metrotown location in Burnaby has officially opened its doors.
“Hannam Supermarket is open! Bringing Korea closer to your table,” said the supermarket. “Discover a world of fresh ingredients, authentic Korean flavours, and everyday essentials you love. From Kimchi to Korean snacks, from ready-to-eat meals to premium produce! Everything you need, all in one place.”
Starting in 1998, Hannam was the first large-scale Korean mart in Western Canada, opening in Burnabyâs Korea Town Centre.
Since then, the grocery store has opened locations in Surrey, Langley, and Vancouver (including an âexpressâ location in Yaletown). This latest spot marks the brand’s second location in Burnaby.
In addition to the standard array of grocery staples, Hannam Metrotown will also offer a hot lunch section featuring beef bulgogi, spicy pork, dumplings, and more, available daily from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

You’ll also be able to find freshly made bungeoppang, a fish-shaped pastry that is filled with red bean and custard.
