Flair Airlines is making airline history as it prepares to launch the first-ever non-stop flight from Vancouver to Guanajuato, which some describe as the country’s most beautiful place to visit.
Flair announced the flight earlier this spring, with flights set to depart from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and land in Guanajuato (BJX) in Central Mexico.
Landing in BJX, which is in Mexico’s Bajio region, will allow travellers to access a few popular Mexican spots with ease, including Guanajuato, Leon, and San Miguel de Allende.
According to Mexican travel blogs, the Bajio region is known for its rich colonial history.
One notable attraction a short distance away from the airport is in the city of Silao. The attraction is called the Shrine of Christ the King on Cerro del Cubilete, and is a 20-metre bronze statue of Jesus.

The entire State of Guanajuato has a population of just over six million (the sixth most in Mexico), while the capital city has a municipal population of around 200,000. Leon is the largest municipality, with just under two million people.
Guanajuato is also considered to be one of the more affordable ways to travel to Mexico, at least compared to the typical beach resort trip.
Flair says this new flight will create “new opportunities for tourism, business and connections between families and communities in Canada and Mexico.”
Flair will be holding a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Vancouver flight this Saturday at YVR, the official launch day.
This announcement comes just one day after Air Canada launched a new direct flight route from Vancouver to a major Mainland China city.
Air Canada announced this month that it will launch a year-round, direct, nonstop service between YVR and Guangzhou, the capital and largest city of Guangdong province. Located near Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Macau, Guangzhou is a major centre for manufacturing and high-tech industries.
