Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for parts of Metro Vancouver.
The bulletin, which was published on Thursday morning, is in effect for the following areas:
- Metro Vancouver – North Shore including West Vancouver and North Vancouver
- Metro Vancouver – northeast including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge
The weather agency says that “heavy rain” is expected to return to the region on New Year’s Eve, adding that between 40 to 60 mm of precipitation could occur within a 24-hour period.

“A wet start to the new year is expected,” says Environment Canada. ” Another storm system will approach the BC Coast today. Heavy rain is expected to develop by this evening and continue through Friday night.”
Localized flooding in low-lying areas is also possible.
