New dual-concept cafe and cocktail bar to open in notable Vancouver building

Beautiful spaces and great drinks seem to be a winning combination when it comes to new Vancouver cafes and bars, and this new dual concept looks like it’s going to deliver on both.
Ellipsis is a new dual-bar concept introduced by Ming Yang, a renowned cafe owner behind the popular Honolulu Coffee. The concept will combine coffee, cocktails, and community all inside the iconic Waterfall Building.
“In a world that moves faster and faster, I wanted to create a space that invites us to slow down, to pause, to meet in the moment,â explained owner Ming Yang. “Itâs a cafĂ©, itâs a bar, but more than that, itâs a space for presence, connection and meaning.”
When it comes to specifics, the cafe comes in at 2,882 sq. ft. and will include 47 seats.

For those unfamiliar with the Waterfall Building, it was designed in 1996 by Canadian architect Arthur Erickson in collaboration with Nick Milkovich and originally meant to be an art gallery.
The redesign of the space, led by SML Studio Architecture in collaboration with Tetherstone Construction, pays tribute to the original modernist architecture through the use of brushed stainless steel surfaces, geometric millwork, and primary shapes. Reflective elements in the space are balanced with natural materials such as wood and fabric to create a warm and comforting environment, and are combined with burnt orange upholstery and warm ambient lighting to soften the structural tones.

An exact opening date has yet to be shared, but Ellipsis is expected to open later this summer. Once open, it will operate daily from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
