Restaurants have been closing all over Vancouver, and now another one has shared that it has officially closed its doors.

Mexican restaurant Don Oso’s broke the news in late January that it has closed the doors to its Vancouver location.

The reason for the closure? The restaurant said it’s due to rising operating costs and a significant increase in its lease.

“Despite our best efforts, with the rising operating cost these days we’ve been unable to overcome the financial challenges in these hard times, and with a 150% increase to our lease, this has not only made it unattainable but impossible. After much reflection, we’ve made the difficult decision that this is the right time for us to close our doors,” said Don Oso’s.

Located at 1305 Commercial Drive, Don Oso’s opened its Vancouver location at the start of 2022. Previously, this was the home to Storm Crow Tavern, which closed after seven years of operation.

Don Oso’s was best known for its signature Mexican eats like quesabirria tacos, chacarero sandwiches, birria ramen, and empanadas.

“While this is a sad goodbye, we will always treasure the memories and connections we’ve made. Don Osos Vancouver will forever be a part of our family’s journey, and we hope that one day our paths may cross again,” concluded the restaurant.

Don Oso’s Vancouver closed its doors on January 27.

Thankfully, fans of the Mexican restaurant can still visit its original Burnaby location at 4421 Hastings Street.
