"Disturbed and horrified": Mother speaks out about graphic anti-abortion flyer
Editor’s note: This article contains graphic images that may not be suitable for all readers. Daily Hive has made the editorial decision to blur the images of the materials in this article.
A mother was horrified to find graphic images of aborted human fetuses in her mailbox because her young daughter was moments away from seeing them. Ms. White lives in Vancouver’s South Granville neighbourhood and is a mom to a toddler who loves to go to the mailbox and collect the post for her mom.
White told Daily Hive that last week, a pamphlet was among the letters containing “extremely sensitive and horrific images inside that are totally inappropriate for young children,” she said.
“Even I felt ill looking at the images,” said White. “Thank goodness my daughter did not open the flyer… but I am very concerned.”
White is clear that she takes issue not with the political views espoused in the materials, but with the graphic nature of the images in the document.
“I am disturbed and horrified that this kind of content can be circulated without any thought to the upset and damage it can create, especially to the young,” she said.
White complained to the City of Vancouver about the incident, but the City told Daily Hive that it has no jurisdiction over what’s put in folks’ mail and that if the materials are criminal in nature, the resident should contact the Vancouver Police.
Who is responsible for the pamphlet?
Canada Post confirmed to Daily Hive that the materials were not distributed via mail. The flyer was created by the Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform (CCBR), which confirmed that it was the distributor of the “pro-life pamphlet.”
The centre, which advocates for an “abortion-free Canada,” has been criticized in the past by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for distributing “hateful” flyers of aborted fetuses.
“This careful design, together with our team of staff, interns, and volunteers working diligently to ensure that these pamphlets are placed either in designated mail receptacles or else placed very high within the entryways of homes, ensure that almost all of them are retrieved by those old enough to choose abortion themselves or else actively influence others to choose abortion.”
“Careful design” is not careful enough
“My daughter is three years old and loves picking up the mail, these images of a torn-apart dead baby with blood and guts spilled would give her nightmares for weeks if not cause a permanent negative and frightening memory,” said White.
According to White, the CCBR did not respond to her complaint about the pamphlet.
“My concern is the imagery is so sensitive, disturbing, and horrifying for young children who pick up the mail and these sorts of pamphlets with terrifying imagery need to at least be sealed or put through the mailbox in an envelope,” said White.
