Vancouver brewery announces closure a year after asking the community for help to stay open

After opening in early 2024, CowDog Brewing Company has made the unfortunate announcement that it will be closing its doors.

“With heavy hearts, we’re announcing that CowDog Brew Company will be closing its doors at the end of this month,” shared the brewery.

For those unfamiliar, CowDog Brewing opened in the former location of Callister Brewing’s Tap House in East Vancouver. It was the passion project of owner Michael Hodgson and his four-legged chief treat-tasting officer, Louis, a.k.a. CowDog.

However, CowDog Brewing plans to go out in style with one final get-together on June 29.

“Before we say goodbye, we invite you to join us for one final event on Sunday, June 29 from 1 to 4 p.m. — a fundraiser for Lifting Stars Veterinary Homecare and their amazing Angel Fund,” said the brewery. “We’ll be tapping a special saison brewed in collaboration with Lifting Stars, and we want to go out on a high note by selling out the keg for a great cause!”

Plus, Hedgehog Pizza will be in attendance, serving up its signature sourdough crust pizzas.

“Bring your growlers, bring your friends, bring your well-mannered dogs, and help us make this last hurrah something truly special. Let’s raise a glass (and some funds) together one more time,” concluded CowDog Brewing.

In May 2024, CowDog Brewing asked the community for support to remain open.

“CowDog is not doing that great right now,” shared Hodgson at the time. “We have not been getting enough customers in buying beers to offset our costs, and right now, they are starting to add up.”

Dished spoke with Hodgson about the struggles, who said that rent in East Vancouver was not inexpensive and that things were starting to pile up.

CowDog Brewing’s final day of service is June 29.
