A Vancouver seafood restaurant just launched a multi-course lobster feast for $68 — here's why we love it

In a city where it’s getting harder and harder to find a deal, we tend to take notice when a restaurant is serving multiple courses of lobster for $68 a person. This is how we ended up at Coast on Monday evening for some “investigative journalism” to find out if this deal was too good to be true.

Dubbed the “Summer of Lobster,” the menu is a three-course, lobster-focused feast taking place now until July 31, offering a host of lobster-forward options. Intrigued? So were we.

Located on the bustling section of Alberni alongside other heavy hitters like Kobe Japanese Steakhouse and Black + Blue, Coast has long been known for its seafood offerings (it hosts an annual oyster-eating contest after all), so you’re definitely in safe hands when you visit.

Like most Glowbal-owned establishments, while you’re guaranteed a reliable meal when visiting, where Coast truly shines is in its service. We’ve been a couple of times and have been wowed by the level of care and attention to detail the staff have shown (including a major assist by one server subtly letting us know about the embarrassing amount of crumbs on our shirt while on a date).

But enough about the restaurant, you want to know more about the lobster.

Your meal starts with a choice between three different appetizers, each one focused on lobster.

If you had to ask us for a recommendation, we’d steer you towards the citrus-forward Miso Butter Lobster Roll — a sushi roll featuring lobster, miso, yuzu mayo, tobiko, and avocado rolled in soy paper and topped with an impressive crispy lotus root chip. We think any good appetizer is one that’s easily shareable and light, and this checked all of our boxes.

But if you’re looking for more traditional lobster offerings, there are also other options that are definitely worth ordering. The creamy Lobster VeloutĂ©, for instance, was a favourite at the table, complete with a chunk of lobster and topped with spicy lobster oil. And if you want to get some greens in, the Lobster Louie is also a great option, complete with a jammy soft-boiled egg and plenty of lobster on top.

Don’t worry, there’s more lobster to be found during the second course. You’re once again presented with a choice of three dishes, each served with one pound of lobster (so there’s no need to optimize your order to make sure you get the most lobster).

You’ll find fan-favourite lobster dishes like the Classic Lobster Boil served with plenty of butter and Old Bay seasoning, and the Lobster Thermidor, a decadent dish topped with lemon hollandaise and served with buttermilk mashed potatoes and asparagus.

For us, our favourite was the Lobster Casarecce Con Salsiccia, a pasta dish made with pork and fennel sausage ragout that is reminiscent of the Italian zuppa touscana soup. And it might go without saying, but there was plenty of lobster to top the dish.

For the third and final course, things move away from the lobster (we’re not sure what a lobster dessert would even look like). Instead, you have a choice between the Coast classic Warm Banana and Coconut Butter Cake or the refreshing Coconut Lime Panna Cotta. Both are solid choices, depending on how you’re feeling after all that lobster.

While $68 per person won’t put Coast on any list of the most affordable restaurants in Vancouver, the amount of lobster you’re enjoying alone is worth the price of admission.
