“Golden. Crisp. Generous.” That’s what Benne, the new Vancouver restaurant coming to Kitsilano, is promising, and we couldn’t be more on board.

“Benne is our neighbourhood kitchen inspired by the cafés and homes of South India,” describes the restaurant on its website. “Rooted in tradition and shaped by life in Kitsilano, Benne is a place to gather over good food, great coffee, and warm hospitality.”

Here, the team promises to serve up dosas with house sambar and tomato/coconut chutney, alongside a selection of small plates and filter coffee courtesy of our friends over at Alai Coffee Roasters.

Highlights from the dosa menu include the Benne Masala Dosa, Prawn Ghee Roast Dosa, and Butter Chicken Dosa. As for small plates, anticipate bites like Curry Leaf Prawn Cake, Onion Bhajia, and Benne Gunpowder Wings.

“Every dosa begins with naturally fermented batter. We grind our spices fresh, cook to order, and let simple ingredients do the work. Good food doesn’t need to be complicated-it just needs time and care,” said the restaurant.

According to its website, it also plans to offer a selection of cocktails, beers, wines, and zero-proof drink options.

An exact opening date for the new restaurant has yet to be shared, but expect to stop in for a dosa sometime this summer.
