Michelin-recognized Vancouver bar to bring back iconic yellow shipping container

Michelin-recognized Chupito is returning to its roots by bringing back the iconic yellow shipping container to its new home in Mount Pleasant starting this Saturday.
What was once the centerpiece of Chupito’s hidden Gastown patio, the beloved shipping container is once again welcoming patrons into a vibrant backyard setting tucked behind the restaurant.
For the season, Tara Davies and Erick Vazquez have created a highball-forward, low-waste cocktail menu designed for long summer afternoons and evenings. Offerings include the Piña y Coco (carbonated rum blend, Palo Cortado sherry, pineapple, coconut, lime, and ginger) and the Manzanilla (carbonated Dolin Blanc, Manzanilla, and mango pit cordial).
There will also be a selection of low-intervention wines, beers, and rotating alcoholic and non-alcoholic popsicles served as a complimentary “chupito” to welcome every guest.
As for the food side of things, Executive Chef Maria Ponce is drawing inspiration from Mexico’s coastal regions with a seafood-forward menu all centered around the raw bar. Expect a selection of tostadas, including Tostada de Atún, Tostada de Pulpo, and Tostada de Aguachile, alongside a Plato de Mariscos (freshly shucked oysters with salsa marisquera and other seasonal offerings) and a selection of grilled offerings like Pollo Asado and Pescado a la Talla.

Plus, to embrace the spirit of a traditional Mexican backyard gathering, Ponce will also be serving up Carne Asada every weekend.
“We’re incredibly excited to welcome our yellow shipping container to its new home in Mount Pleasant,” said Davies and Vazquez. “It has been part of our story from the very beginning and represents so much of who we are. Bringing it back feels like the perfect way to celebrate our fifth anniversary.”
“More importantly, we’re excited to share that sense of genuine Mexican hospitality with our neighbours,” added Davies. “Some of our fondest memories revolve around gathering around a grill with friends and family, and nothing captures that feeling better than a weekend carne asada in the backyard.”
