Vancouver's ultimate celebration of crab is returning next month

We may still be in the midst of all the spot prawn excitement, but another celebration of seafood is just around the corner. This time, it’s all about Dungenous crab. That’s right, False Creek Crab Fest is returning to Vancouver for its fourth year.

At the heart of this celebration is, of course, Dungenous crab, which will be highlighted in a mouthwatering crab boil experience by local chefs, including Vish Mayekar (chef and owner of Elem) and Johnny Bridge (president of Chefs’ Table Society of B.C.).

“Chef Vish & I are super excited to once again support B.C.’s hardworking Crab Fishers by putting together this Dungeness Crab Boil for guests,” said Bridge. “The connection between fishers, chefs and the people enjoying the food is such an important one to us, and Crab Fest is a very special chance to celebrate the folks behind our local food systems and the incredible product coming from our oceans.”

The event takes place at False Creek Fishermen’s Wharf, allowing festival goers the rare opportunity to connect directly with local fishers (all while enjoying some of Vancouver’s top waterfront views). You can also expect plenty of live music, games, and educational booths.

But the False Creek Crab Fest is more than just a celebration of tasty seafood; it also raises awareness for the sustainable management of B.C.’s crab fishery and supports the future of the food and hospitality community.

Proceeds from the event help advance initiatives led by Chefs’ Table Society, including culinary scholarships, mentorships, sustainability projects, and the development of The Commons by Chefs’ Table Society — a gathering place dedicated to strengthening B.C.’s food and hospitality sector.

“Events like Crab Fest help bridge the gap between consumers and the people who harvest their food,” said Megan Eadie, executive director of BC Crab Fishermen’s Association. “By coming together to enjoy local seafood, we’re also supporting coastal communities, sustainable fishing practices, and the future of B.C.’s seafood industry.ā€

Each ticket will include one delicious Dungeness Crab plate, a sweet treat, and two beverage tasting tickets.

Early bird tickets start at $65 per person plus tax and are on sale now until June 14. Starting June 15, general admission tickets go on sale, starting at $70 per person. Tickets will also be available on the day of the event at the door for $75.
