Bad Apple is Vancouver’s newest destination for plant-based comfort eats, and it’s now open at 2481 E Hastings Street daily from noon to 10 pm.
The new vegan concept has taken over the former location of What’s Up? Hot Dog! as well as its Instagram account, although none of Bad Apple’s owners are affiliated with the now-shuttered hot dog shop.

One of Bad Apple’s owners, Taylor Burnham (former owner of Nomad), told Daily Hive how the concept’s catchy name was determined.
“Honestly, we were having trouble coming to an agreement on a new name. I was reading a click-bait article about English phrases that people just learning English find nonsensical and “bad apple” was one of them,” Burnham wrote via email. “I liked the idea of having a name that we could create different characters out of, perhaps some mascots for takeout containers or merchandise.”
Burnham says the interior of the space has been given a fresh coat of paint and features new photography, many of the images were taken by his staff.
In terms of eats, there’s a lot of plant-based dishes to devour here, like 10 different kinds of vegan wings.
It’s exciting to see such ample selection when it comes to Cauliflower Wings. Bad Apple boasts flavours like Spicy Peanut, Pineapple Sriracha, and Jalapeno Honey Garlic to name a few.
In addition to the wings, Bad Apple’s got an array of handhelds up for order like a Korean BBQ Brisket Sandwich and a Southern Spicy Seitan Sandwich too.
Expect classic comfort grub like nachos, poutine, hot dogs, and waffle fries here, you can even opt for a vegan take on fish and chips: Shrooms ‘n’ Chips, made from beer-battered oyster mushrooms.
For drinks, you’ll find a small selection of local beers and ciders alongside house cocktails.
Bad Apple’s eats are now available for delivery through DoorDash, and the team tells Daily Hive a vegan weekend brunch is coming at us later this month too, stay tuned.
