Toronto Caribbean kitchen wins top honours at US competition
Toronto’s Street Shak fast casual Caribbean eatery has taken home top honours at an American conference geared towards the fast food industry.
Presented to a panel of industry leaders and up against a bacon-food truck from Alabama, and a grilled cheese outfit out of Abany, New York, the Toronto-based business took home first place at this year in the Pitch Perfect competition at the 2017 Fast Casual Executive Summit in Nashville.
Owners Tony and Karen Bradshaw entered with the aim of gaining exposure from investors and potential partners and traveled to the US in October to partake in the Dragons Den-style competition.
In a phone call with Daily Hive, Tony shares that experience was especially validating and that Street Shak hopes to follow in the path of previous winners which have expanded to multiple locations in under a year.
The Caribbean concept currently operates a single location on Queen West and is known for its menu of fish cake and bake, jerk chicken, roti, and mix and match meals staring oxtail, curry goat, jerk chicken and more.
We can imagine it already… Street Shaks everywhere… kind of like Chipotle meets Chefette.
