Amidst protests, demonstrations, and sky-high tension levels, the Portland Police Bureau released this video:
— Portland Police (@PortlandPolice) June 15, 2020
The video comes the morning after yet another day and night of protests that included partial escalation involving force to control “civil disturbance” and “unlawful assembly.” Since the dawn of the local Black Lives Matter movement in Portland, the police have taken up crowd-control munitions, protecting landmarks like the Justice Center downtown.
Some vocal Portlandians have not taken the message too kindly, and a few have taken to social media to vent their outrage.
I used to think being blasted with crowd control munitions would be a bad thing, but now that I know the person deploying them might speak Tagalog or Polish I feel differently. Thank you, PPB, very cool!

I see a gang that rides and dies together. I also see a gang that will stick up for each other over the public no matter what. #ganglife

They all look like the one that pepper sprayed me from behind the fence because I asked for their badge number.

Now that I know the abuse is coming from a diverse source it’s fine.

I just see a violent gang immune to all accountability and with a huge PR budget whining about how unfair it is people hate the abuse they dole out.

That’s so nice. But have you tried not killing people?

In contrast, there were a few folks expressing vocal support for the Portland police and see this message as a caring and empathetic move from the Bureau.
I see caring professional human beings trying to do their job the best they can. I 💙PPB. ❤️🇺🇸💙🙏🏻✌🏻
