11 things to do in Montreal today: Saturday, April 20

It’s the first 4/20 celebration since cannabis legalization around the country and Montreal is celebrating with a bundle of cannabis-related parties today, April 20.

If that’s not really up your alley, the city is oozing with great events worthy of checking out as well.

Star Wars: A New Hope – In Concert

A galaxy far, far away is coming to Place des Arts.

The Quebec entertainment company, GFN Productions, has announced that the world tour of Star Wars: A New Hope – In Concert is coming to Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier for two dates this month.

Montreal’s Orchestre FILMharmonique will be performing the 1977’s film iconic soundtrack, bringing John William’s Oscar-winning score to life as the original film plays on the big screen.

420 Mount Royal

Take part in a seriously laid back 4/20 gathering in the shadow of the Mount Royal monument. Bring a blanket, some snacks, and whatever else you might need as this is less an organized event and more a beautiful and sporadic joining together of the MTL cannabis community.

Vintage Bazaar Sale

From vintage home decor, retro objects, clothes, jewellery, retro accessories, books, vinyl records, toys, and furniture, the Église St-Jean Berchmans is hosting a whopper of a bazar sale on Saturday.

iSaute Kirkland

Take your kids to iSaute Kirkland and pretend it’s for them when it’s really for you.

iSaute is a massive venue that has over 30 giant trampolines, trampoline basketball, wall climbing and a trampoline jungle gym. You pay by the hour, there’s a lot to do and it’s actually a fantastic workout. Fun for all ages (and a great workout).

The Therapists, HYRE & Lightmares 420 showdown

The Therapists will be bringing all the medicinal therapy needed for Canada’s first legal 420 celebrations with non-stop, interactive, circus party punk metal from the dirty mining town of Sudbury, Ontario. Local heroes HYRE will also be there to rock your socks off and set the mood for dancing and drinking with some good dirty grunge! Then enjoy the Lightmares, three sweet boys who like making loud noises. They’ve been doing this together for over a decade and the way they play a set together really shows it.

Coup Sûr

With baseball/softball season right around the corner, head to the cages and get your swing timing down.

Coup Sûr has six pitching machines all throwing at various speeds and each machine throws either baseballs or softballs. They have a closed off radar section too if you want to practice pitching. They supply bats and helmets and boast an impressive Baseball Town store if you’re looking for some gear.

Their pro shop, Baseball Town, is offering 25% on selected items on Saturday in preparation for the upcoming season.

Thierry Mugler at the MMFA

The world premiere of the Thierry Mugler: Couturissime exhibition which was christened by Kim Kardashian is at Montreal’s Museum of Fine Arts.

Set against a spectacular backdrop, the exhibition brings together more than 140 garments made between 1973 and 2001, most of which have never been shown before.

Smoke2Def

The eighth annual Smoke 2 Def is coming to Montreal for April 20. With acts from as far as the UK, with the dubstep of Trampa, LA’s TrollPhace, Crowell from Detroit, and numerous other acts. It’s going to be loud. Get out there. Held at Circus, the party keeps going till 6 am.

Volcanoes 3D – IMAX

The IMAX Telus Theatre at the Montreal Science Centre invites guests to a “very hot immersive experience.” Volcanoes 3D will take patrons where few humans dare to venture: into the heart of a volcano.

Using state-of-the-art 3D technology, Volcanoes 3D will offer viewers a thrilling experience, exposing them to the lava erupting at over 700ºC.

The documentary will plunge daringly into the heart of various volcanoes from around the globe, exploiting IMAX with new laser technology.
