Ash Wednesday is turning into a snowy Wednesday.

Environment Canada has issued a Snowfall Warning for Montreal and its surrounding areas, forecasting up to 20 cm of powder throughout Wednesday and Thursday.

The alert states that the snow “may be wet or mixed with rain overnight tonight.” Precipitation is expected to be “more sustained” snow by early Thursday morning.

The weather agency warns travellers to expect poor driving conditions due to low visibility and rapidly accumulating snow, especially during Thursday morning’s commute. “Consider changing your travel plans,” reads the alert. “There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas.”
