Controversial Edmonton home where former Oiler lived on the market again for $3.25M

A multimillion-dollar home tucked away in Edmonton’s Mill Creek Ravine is once again on the market, this time with a significant price drop after years of making headlines for everything from its construction to its famous former tenant.

The home at 9213 97th St. is listed for $3.25 million, a far cry from its $4.6-million auction listing in 2020 and $4.7-million asking price in 2023, reduced to $3.8 million in January 2026. At one point, it was even available to rent.

The house is undeniably gorgeous, and former Oilers defenceman Tyson Barrie rented it during his time in Edmonton, according to a previous realtor who spoke with Daily Hive in 2023.

But the home’s construction was also polarizing. In 2018, dozens of people showed up to a subdivision and development appeal board hearing to voice their opposition to the home being built in the ravine.

Back then, the home’s owner said living there with his family would make them “guardians of the ravine.”

“I’ve got five children. They’ll all be stewards of the forest, that’s my dream,” he told the Edmonton Journal in 2018.

Two years later, however, the home would appear up for auction, and it’s been on and off the market ever since.

But beyond the controversy and famous former tenant, the home’s next owner will get a private retreat in one of Edmonton’s most beautiful parks, with an elevator connecting all four floors, including the rooftop patio and hot tub.

There’s nothing more soothing than being surrounded by forest, which is something you’ll feel surrounded by through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

The kitchen is equally stunning, with a solid marble island, wood cabinets, and a gorgeous and massive gas range.

What really sets this house apart is its top level, however.

“A private sanctuary submersed in treetop serenity,” the listing touted.
