Hyman writes touching note to Edmonton Oilers fans ahead of Stanley Cup Final

Zach Hyman took to social media on Monday night to thank Edmonton Oilers fans for their support in a touching note.

The veteran forward will not be able to play with the team in the Stanley Cup Final due to an injury he sustained in the Western Conference Final. Hyman was involved in an awkward collision with Dallas Stars forward Mason Marchment in Game 4 that ended his season and required him to undergo surgery.

It’s a huge loss not only for the Oilers but also for Hyman himself. He’s been a heart and soul player for this team, doing everything from scoring to hitting throughout this postseason. Not being able to help his team at the most critical time of the season has to be tough.

Hyman wrote a note to Oilers fans ahead of the Stanley Cup Final to thank the fans and throw support behind his teammates.

“An emotional week, but I’m grateful to be back in the SCF,” Hyman wrote. “Thank you to everyone who reached out and showed support, it truly means a lot.

“I can’t wait to support the boys in every way I can!”

The Oilers will not be able to fill the void left by Hyman’s absence with one player. He was humming along offensively this postseason, netting five goals and 11 points in 15 games, but was also on a warpath with his physicality.

He ended his playoff run with an astounding 111 hits, the most in the league by 26 and nearly an NHL record. This comes after he recorded just 59 hits all regular season. When the calendar flipped into playoff hockey, so did Hyman.

To get a sense of how much he means to this group of players, you should have seen the reaction of the team as Hyman FaceTimed his teammates after they clinched the Western Conference Title in Dallas.

Hyman’s post was littered with comments of support, including one from Leon Draisaitl’s fiancĂ©e, Celeste Dejardins, who put a few orange and blue hearts in her message. Oilers defenceman John Klingberg also commented.

“Yeah, buddy, let’s go,” Klingberg wrote.

If anything, this will motivate Edmonton to play even harder in the final to ensure that Hyman can lift the Stanley Cup despite his injury.
