Zach Hyman couldn’t be with the Edmonton Oilers when they won the Western Conference on Thursday night — but he was definitely with the team in spirit.
And once the team’s postgame celebrations bled into the locker room after knocking off the Dallas Stars, Hyman was able to be there virtually, as well.
Via a video posted on the team’s social accounts, it appears that Leon Draisaitl hit up his teammate on FaceTime for a quick chat after the game, with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Corey Perry also joining in on the fun.

Typically, injured players don’t travel with the team even for big playoff games, with only a limited number of plane seats and hotels booked in advance. That could, of course, change if Hyman and the Oilers have a potential Cup-clinching Game in Florida next series, though he’ll likely be around the team plenty during their time in Edmonton.
The 32-year-old forward was injured earlier in the series following an awkward collision in Game 4 with Dallas’ Mason Marchment. The play appears to have ended Hyman’s season prematurely, as he required surgery on his wrist and is out for the foreseeable future.
Hyman led the NHL with 16 playoff goals last season and has been a postseason monster since coming over from the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2021-22 season. In four playoff runs with Edmonton, Hyman has played 68 games, scoring 35 goals and adding 25 assists. Only Edmonton teammate Leon Draisaitl has scored more postseason goals over that span, while he’s ninth in total postseason scoring.
“Obviously, it’s extremely disappointing to lose [Hyman], devastated for him,” Edmonton captain Connor McDavid said Thursday morning. “He wants to be out there, wants to make a difference, and so we’ll miss him a lot.”
The Hyman-less Oilers will get a bit of a break to recuperate before facing off against the Florida Panthers in a rematch of last year’s Stanley Cup Final.
Game 1 is set to take place on Wednesday, June 4, at Rogers Place in Edmonton. The series shifts to Florida for the first time on Monday, June 9, with the last possible game on Friday, June 20.
