So much for the Edmonton Oilers’ goaltending problems being solved.
After being acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins last week in a trade that saw Stuart Skinner and Brett Kulak head the other way, Tristan Jarry was forced to exit Thursday’s game after injuring himself in the second period. Calvin Pickard came in and helped lead the Oilers to a 3-1 victory.
There was little update from head coach Kris Knoblauch immediately after the game, but less than a full day later, the picture is starting to become a little clearer.
Though there is still no official update on Jarry’s timeline, he will miss further time, as the Oilers announced this morning that he has been placed on injured reserve. In a subsequent move, Connor Ingram has been recalled from the AHL.

In order to make things work from a cap perspective, the Oilers also moved Jack Roslovic ā who hasn’t played since Nov. 25 ā to long-term injured reserve.
This was a concern amongst Oilers fans when the team first acquired Jarry, as the 30-year-old has trouble staying healthy throughout his career. He missed seven games earlier this season with the Penguins due to a lower-body injury.
For the time being, the Oilers will operate with Pickard, as well as Ingram, whom they traded for shortly before the 2025-26 season began.
Initially, there was hope that Ingram could get back to the level he played at in 2023-24 with the Arizona Coyotes, where he made 50 appearances and posted a respectable .907 SV%. That hasn’t been the case, however, as he has an ugly 4.04 GAA along with a .856 SV% in 11 appearances with the Bakersfield Condors.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported on Friday morning that the Oilers had shown interest in Buffalo Sabres goaltender Alex Lyon during the summer and early on in the 2025-26 season. He hinted on the latest 32 Thoughts podcast that Jarry’s injury could result in GM Stan Bowman reaching back out to the Sabres regarding Lyon.
Lyon, 33, is in the first of a two-year deal which carries a $1.5 million cap hit. He’s operated as the Sabres’ number-one goalie this season, posting a 2.99 GAA along with a .904 SV% in 18 appearances.
