The Edmonton Oilers have finally pulled the trigger on a deal to bring in another goaltender.
After plenty of scrutinty and speculation facing their crease in recent years, the Oilers announced that they have acquired Tristan Jarry, along with forward Sam Poulin, from the Pittsburgh Penguins. Going back the other way will be Stuart Skinner, Brett Kulak, and a second-round pick in 2029.

This is a pretty shocking deal. While it was known that the Oilers had interest in Jarry, it had been previously mentioned by Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman that it wouldn’t be Skinner heading out for him. That instead turns out to be the case, meaning that, for at least the time being, the Oilers now have a goalie tandem of Jarry and Calvin Pickard.
Jarry, after a rough 2024-25 season that saw him briefly sent to the AHL, has bounced back nicely in 2025-26. Through 14 appearances, he owns a 2.66 GAA along with a .909 SV%. Those numbers are very similar to what he’s done his entire career, as, through 307 NHL games, he’s posted a 2.74 GAA and a .909 SV%.
Skinner, on the other hand, has struggled once again in 2025-26. Through 23 games, he’s posted a disappointing 2.83 GAA and a .891 SV%, numbers that left GM Stan Bowman with little choice but to trade for another goalie.
Of course, the Oilers also lost a solid defenceman in Brett Kulak, who has served on their back end since being acquired from the Montreal Canadiens in the 2021-22 season. The 31-year-old has two assists through 31 games while averaging slightly less than 18 minutes in ice time.
The Oilers will be on the hook for all of Jarry’s deal, which sees him carry a $5.375 cap hit through the 2027-28 season. As for Poulin, he’s on a two-way deal that sees him make $775,000 at the NHL level, and $325,000 in the AHL.
In a subsequent move shortly after, the Oilers pulled the trigger on another trade, acquiring defenceman Spencer Stastney from the Nashville Predators in exchange for a third-round pick in 2027.
