Edmonton Oilers coach gives Tristan Jarry injury update

The Edmonton Oilers got the victory against the Boston Bruins on Thursday night, but they suffered a big loss during the game.

Tristan Jarry left the game in the second period after suffering an injury while sliding across on an innocent-looking play. Something appeared to be wrong with Jarry right away, and he promptly left the game after the next whistle.

Head coach Kris Knoblauch gave a brief update on Jarry’s status after the victory.

“We’ll see, I’m not sure how serious it is,” Knoblauch said.

This was a major concern for many when the Oilers decided to trade for Jarry earlier this month. The 30-year-old does have an extensive injury history throughout his NHL tenure, and they don’t have many viable goaltending options outside of him.

This wouldn’t be Jarry’s first injury this season, having missed some time in November with a lower-body injury. Time will tell whether or not the Surrey, B.C., native will be out long-term or not.

If he is, it appears the net will belong to backup Calvin Pickard for the time being. The journeyman goaltender has not had a great start to the season, ranking near the bottom of the NHL in multiple stats, but has looked good of late.

One of Connor Ingram or Matt Tomkins would probably need to be called up from the AHL, but neither has put up encouraging numbers in the minor leagues. There have also been rumours that the Oilers are eyeing up Buffalo Sabres goalie Alex Lyon in a potential trade.

The NHL trade freeze coming into effect on Friday morning means that it is no longer an option until after the holidays.

Edmonton has three more games left on the schedule before the holiday break.
