The restaurant industry is notoriously fickle, and while there have been plenty of exciting openings to celebrate, there have also been some sad restaurant closures in Edmonton over the past month.

From a long-standing family-run bakery to a neighbourhood pub, YEG’s dining scene has seen some casualties since the year kicked off. Here are some of the most notable restaurant closures in and around Edmonton.

Ashford House Pub

Ashford House Pub, an Irish gastropub in Manchester Square, has revealed it has sadly closed its doors after two years.

“With deep gratitude, we now say goodbye. Ashford House Pub has officially closed its doors, but the memories, laughter, and community that filled these walls will always remain,” the restaurant said in a statement on its website.

Having opened in 2023, Ashford House Pub offered classic Irish pub fare from Sunday roast dinners to bangers and mash, as well as bar snacks such as wings and burgers.

SOHO, named after the iconic New York neighbourhood, revealed on Facebook that it would be closing its outpost at 11454 Jasper Avenue after more than three years.

“We sadly regret to inform you that after nearly 3.5 years of making music and memories together, we will close our doors for the last time on Saturday, January 18,” the restaurant said in the post.

The restaurant is a celebration of U.S. dining, offering N.Y.-style pies and stacked Philly Cheesesteaks, as well as other Big Apple-ready dishes such as hot dogs, burgers, and cheesecake.

Italian Bakery – Downtown

Italian Bakery has shared it has closed its downtown Edmonton location at 10644 97th St. after opening 64 years ago.

“Today we close the chapter on an era,” the bakery said in an Instagram post.

“It wasn’t an easy decision, but sadly the one that had to be made.”

The spot first opened in YEG in 1960 before expanding to a second location in Beverly. The bakery is known for serving tasty sweet treats and savoury snacks, including cannolis, bread, paninis, buns, cookies, coffee, and more.
