Family-owned Italian bakery closes one of its Edmonton locations after 64 years

It’s the end of an era for Edmonton foodies as one of the city’s most beloved bakeries has closed its doors.
Italian Bakery has shared it has closed its downtown Edmonton location at 10644 97th Street, after opening 64 years ago.
“Today we close the chapter on an era,” the bakery said in an Instagram post.
“It wasn’t an easy decision, but sadly the one that had to be made.”
The spot first opened in YEG in 1960 before expanding to a second location in Beverly. The bakery is known for serving tasty sweet treats and savoury snacks, including cannolis, bread, paninis, buns, cookies, coffee, and more.

It’s been a rocky road for the downtown outpost, which was forced to close for over three years after a fire destroyed much of the building in 2020. The revamped space was finally able to reopen in December 2023.
Luckily, it isn’t the end of the line for the Italian Bakery, as its Beverly outpost will remain open.
