Canadian Lotto Max player woke up $55 million richer this weekend

A Lotto Max player’s life has been forever changed after matching the winning numbers in the latest draw, turning them into a multimillionaire overnight.

The Lotto Max draw took place on Friday, Jan. 9, and the winning numbers were 09, 21, 26, 31, 34, 36, and 43, with bonus 46. One Canadian’s dream of winning the jackpot finally came true after they matched all seven winning numbers.

“The $55-million Lotto Max jackpot from last night’s draw was won with a ticket sold somewhere in the United Counties of Prescott and Russell in Eastern Ontario,” reads a release from OLG. “This incredible win marks the first major Lotto MaxĀ jackpot of the year, setting the tone for an exciting 2026.”

It hasn’t been long since someone won the jackpot.

On Dec. 30, 2025, another Ontario resident won an $80-million Lotto Max prize. The ticket was sold in London.

A B.C. resident who purchased their ticket from Burnaby is now $1 million richer after they matched the Maxmillions winning numbers 3, 13, 29, 33, 37, 42, and 49.

Two people matched six of the seven numbers and the bonus to win the second prize. Each one will receive a share worth $401,802.80 after purchasing their tickets in Coquitlam, B.C., and Atlantic Canada. A total of 62 people will split the third prize, with each one receiving $3,955.30.

No one in B.C. won the $500,000 Lotto Max Extra prize, and similarly, no one in Ontario won the $1-million Encore prize.

The next Lotto Max draw is on Tuesday, Jan. 13, and the jackpot is worth $14 million.

Another Canadian woke up $1 million richer over the weekend. According to WCLC, a ticket sold in Edmonton, Alta., managed to match the Lotto 6/49 White Ball-winning numbers 39221902-01 during the draw that took place on Saturday, Jan. 10.

No one won the Gold Ball prize worth $10 million, or the Lotto 6/49 Classic Draw prize worth $5 million.

However, five people did end up splitting the Classic Draw second prize, and each one will walk away with $42,717.90. One ticket was sold on PlayNow.com in B.C., while the others were sold in Quebec, Atlantic Canada, Ontario, and Calgary, Alta. The third prize will be shared among 77 winners across Canada, and each will receive $1,164.80.

No one in B.C. won the Lotto 6/49 Classic Draw Extra prize, and likewise, no one in Ontario won the $1-million Encore prize.

The last time someone won the Gold Ball jackpot was on Jan. 7, when a lottery player from Saskatchewan won $18 million.

The next Lotto 6/49 draw is on Jan. 14, and the Gold Ball prize is worth $12 million.
