A lottery player who stopped at a gas station to fill up may have left with a near-empty tank, but he didn’t leave empty-handed.
Rojeh Sayegh, a 25-year-old from Pickering, Ont., has been a casual lottery player since he was old enough to play, often choosing games like Lotto Max, Lotto 6/49, and Poker Lotto. He never would have expected that a trip to the gas station would lead to his first big win.

“I shovelled my driveway and headed to the gas station to fill up,” he recalled. “When I arrived at the store, I decided to use the ticket checker to see how I did on my Poker Lotto ticket.”
When he scanned his ticket, Sayegh couldn’t believe he had beaten the odds — he had won the game’s $100,000 top prize. Overjoyed but a little flustered, Sayegh soon forgot what he was there to do.
“I was so happy. I left the gas station without even pumping gas!” he shared while at the OLG Prize Centre to pick up his cheque.

“Then, I called my dad to tell him the good news. He was hesitant to believe me at first but later congratulated me on my win.”
Sayegh said he already has plans for his windfall: he’s putting his winnings towards investments and plans to celebrate his win by going on vacation.
The winning ticket was purchased at Metro on Whites Road North in Pickering.
A couple of lottery players have also gotten lucky by playing Poker Lotto.
In 2023, Dale MacMillan of Banff, Alta., won the game for the second time, while Shahin Mohamed from Markham, Ont., won for the third time.
