A Canadian lottery player is celebrating his big win with an unforgettable Alaskan cruise with his wife.
Scott Baldry is a retiree, grandfather, and father of two who lives in Hamilton, Ont. A lottery player for 30 years, he said he enjoys playing a mix of lottery games, such as Lotto 6/49, Lottario, and Ontario 49, using the Quick Pick feature to choose his numbers.
It was a normal weekend for Baldry until he received the unexpected news.
“It was a regular Sunday morning when I decided to check my emails,” he recalled. “I saw an email confirming that I’d won a prize. I’d never received anything like it before, so I logged into my OLG.ca account, and there it was — $1 million!”

Baldry discovered he had won the Lotto 6/49 White Ball prize worth $1 million during the Jan. 25, 2025, draw. Not wanting to startle his wife, he decided to take a gentle approach when sharing the news.
“My wife was still sleeping, so I leaned over and whispered, ‘Honey! I just won $1 million!'” he said. “In disbelief, she jumped out of bed. When she realized it was true, she was just as thrilled as I was.”
While at the OLG Prize Centre to claim his $1-million cheque, Baldry said he and his wife were planning a big get-together with loved ones to share the news.
“It’s hard to wrap your head around winning a prize like this,” he said. “Never in a million years did I think I’d be able to say I’m a millionaire! I’m so thankful and feel incredibly blessed.”

Baldry plans to use his winnings to pay some bills. The couple also plan to celebrate by finally taking the Alaskan cruise they’d always dreamed of.
“Winning feels like falling in love; it’s a feeling like no other,” he shared.
