One fortunate Canadian lottery player just became a whole lot richer and will soon walk away with a life-changing jackpot win.
After months without a winner, the jackpot had soared to $60 million, and on Wednesday, someone finally won the top prize after they matched the Gold Ball prize winning number 53689493-01. The winning ticket was sold somewhere in Ontario.
“The winning ticket for the incredible $60 million Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball Jackpot from the Wednesday, May 7, 2025, draw was purchased on OLG.ca,” states the release.
There were other big wins during the draw.
The Lotto 6/49 Classic winning numbers were 01, 04, 08, 13, 16, 26, and bonus 14, and another lucky lottery player has a reason to celebrate after they matched all six winning numbers. As a result, they’ll soon take home a $5-million prize. According to PlayNow.com, the ticket was sold in Western Canada.
After matching five of the six winning numbers and the bonus number, three people managed to split the second prize. Two of the tickets were purchased in Ontario, while one was sold in Coquitlam, B.C. Each of the winners will receive $62,774.80.
The third prize was split between 186 winners across Canada, each receiving $425.20.
In B.C., no one won the $500,000 Lotto 6/49 Classic Draw Extra, and similarly, in Ontario, no one will take home the $1-million Encore top prize.
It’s been a long time since someone won the Lotto 6/49 jackpot.
The last Lotto 6/49 jackpot winner is Thanh Lu, a resident of Edmonton, Alta., who won the $30-million jackpot during the Feb. 5 draw. While claiming his giant cheque, Lu said he plans to leave Alberta and use his winnings to buy a home in B.C.
The next draw is on Saturday, May 10, and the Gold Ball prize is worth $10 million.
