World-famous chicken wing restaurant known for drawing big lines to open first Calgary location
Alberta may be famous for its beef, but over the last few months, chicken has dominated menus at some of the city’s most high-profile openings.
Within the year, YYC has seen some major chains making their way to the city, most notably Chick-fil-A and Dave’s Hot Chicken.Ā And it appears that the chicken hype hasn’t died down in Calgary just yet, with another huge name on the way.
Finally, it looks as though Wingstop, the internationally known chicken restaurant known for drawing huge crowds, will be making its way to Calgary in the near future.
While the brand has yet to share anything on its website or social media accounts, Deerfoot Meadows has teased the opening of the chain on its website.
For those unfamiliar with Wingstop, and how it differs from the several chicken chains that have popped up recently, the spot is largely known for its chicken wings, which can be served both bone-in and boneless, and its chicken tenders.

The spot offers 12 different flavours, with both wet and dry options depending on your wing preference. Each can be identified on its scale from no spice options, such as honey garlic and sweet and tangy Hawaiian, right up to Wingstop’s heat-packed Atomic sauce with habanero pepper.
Alongside its chicken, Wingstop also has a variety of classic wing accompaniments including fries, Cajun-fried corn and veggie sticks.
Originating in Garland, Texas, the chain now has over 1,500 locations around the world. Currently, Wingstop has 15 Canadian outposts, primarily across Ontario.
Calgarians will want to brace themselves, as when Wingstop opened in Mississauga last year, customers were camped out for hours ahead of the opening. It remains to be seen if diners will be willing to wait for 12 hours in YYC, as some did for Chick-fil-A.
Deerfoot Meadows has yet to share when its Wingstop outpost will be open, so stay tuned.
