Calgary has plenty of grocery stores in the works, offering some brand-new places to shop.
Over the next few years, the city is set to see an influx of spots that’ll make it easier than ever to grocery shop in several communities.
Here are the new grocery stores making their way to Calgary and the surrounding area.
Real Canadian Superstore – Buffalo Run
As part of a partnership between Taza Development Corporation and Loblaw, a new Real Canadian Superstore location is set to be built just west of Calgary in Tsuut’ina Nation.
According to the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada, the development will see the construction of a one-storey building, parking lot and loading zone spanning around 9,240 square metres (around 99,459 square feet).
Construction on the new location is set to begin in 2025, and the store is projected to open in 2026.
Costco – Bingham Crossing
News of a new Costco coming to Calgary has been circulating for a while. The new outpost will be coming to Bingham Crossing, a multi-phase development project between the western edge of Calgary and the community of Harmony.
While initially slated to open this fall, the Alberta Major Projects website says the store is set for completion in 2025.
Calgary Co-op – North Hill
Calgary Co-op’s North Hill location will be getting a brand-new building in the coming years. Redevelopment of the area will see a new mixed-use building including a 40,000-square-foot grocery store, with 5,000 square feet of accompanying retail and over 189 residential units above.
For those who regularly shop at the Calgary Co-op North Hill, luckily, the existing grocery store isn’t going anywhere just yet. The project will be phased to ensure the new store is ready to open before the current store closes.
The project is anticipated to be completed by 2027.
Walmart Supercentre – Taza Park
Walmart Canada has been confirmed as the first anchor tenant of the 1,200-acre Taza Park West, just outside Calgary in Tsuut’ina Nation.
Construction on the new Walmart Supercentre is expected to kick off in 2026, with the store anticipated to open in 2027. The spot will serve as the primary grocery and general merchandise retailer in Taza Park, offering fresh food and household essentials.
