Calgary has seen a string of grocery store openings in the last few months, and now a huge grocery store is set to open next year just outside of Calgary, spanning just under 100,000 square feet.
As part of a partnership between Taza Development Corporation and Loblaw, a new Real Canadian Superstore location is set to be built just west of Calgary in Tsuut’ina Nation.
The new Superstore outpost will form part of the 1,200-acre development at Buffalo Run.
According to the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada, the development will see the construction of a one-storey building, parking lot and loading zone spanning around 9,240 square metres (around 99,459 square feet).
Construction on the new location is set to begin in 2025, and the store is projected to open in 2026. Both the project construction and the operations of the store will create job opportunities in the area.
The Real Canadian Superstore at Buffalo Run will offer a wide selection of groceries, household goods, and general merchandise to cater to the needs of local shoppers.
“This is our first-ever Real Canadian Superstore in collaboration with an Indigenous community in Alberta,” says Jonathan Carroll, senior vice president of Superstore Operations at Loblaw Companies Limited.
“Taza is where culture, opportunity and community come together in a meaningful way. We are so pleased to invest in this innovative development and bring fresh, delicious food options and excellent customer service and be part of this growing area.”
The new store will be one of many new grocery openings in and around Calgary. Last month, Calgary Co-op opened its new store in Oakridge.
