Long-standing Calgary restaurant closes after 25 years
After postponing its closure for a few months, a long-standing Calgary restaurant has said farewell after 25 years.
Murrieta’s location in downtown Calgary has officially closed its doors for the final time, after delaying its closure from April to August.
Last year, Ron Salverda, president and CEO at C.A. Restaurant Enterprises, told Dished that, after a phenomenal 25 years in the space, Murrieta’s would be closing in April 2026.
But when April rolled around, the team shared that Murrieta’s would be hanging around for a little longer, with its final service revealed to be Aug. 1, 2026.

Having first opened its doors in 2001, Murrieta’s is known for its extensive menu, ranging from pizza and pasta to fresh seafood, Alberta beef, and more.
Back in November, Salverda told Dished that the reason behind the closure was financial after not being able to secure a “fair and equitable” lease for Murrieta’s downtown outpost. Rest assured, Murrieta’s Canmore location will be sticking around.
However, he added that the team is searching for a new downtown location for Murrieta’s, so watch this space.
In the meantime, the team is set to be opening a brand-new restaurant, Alva, just down the street at The Edison in the coming months.
