Long-standing Calgary restaurant delays its closing for one last ride

While we were devastated to hear that Murrieta’s time on 1st Street SW would be drawing to a close this year, we now have a little longer to enjoy the space.

Last year, Ron Salverda, president and CEO at C.A. Restaurant Enterprises, told Dished that, after a phenomenal 25 years in the space, Murrieta’s would be closing in April 2026. As in this month.

However, in a recent Instagram post, Murrieta’s shared the joyous news that it would be hanging around for a little bit longer, with its new closing date slated for Aug. 1, 2026.

That means the Murrieta’s location will get one last ride and one last Stampede to give it the send-off it fully deserves.

Having first opened its doors in 2001, Murrieta’s is known for its extensive menu, ranging from pizza and pasta to fresh seafood, Alberta beef, and more.

Back in November, Salverda told Dished that the reason behind the closure was financial after not being able to secure a “fair and equitable” lease for Murrieta’s downtown outpost. Rest assured, Murrieta’s Canmore location will be sticking around.

However, he added that the team is searching for a new downtown location for Murrieta’s, so watch this space.
