Recently rebranded Calgary restaurant closes its doors after just a year

A Korean BBQ restaurant has announced it will be closing its only Calgary location this month, after opening just one year ago.

MS BBQ & Dakgalbi, which was previously known as Makchang Dodook, initially opened in Calgary’s Royal Vista neighbourhood last May, where it offered a large menu of Korean BBQ dishes.

However, after a rebrand in December, the restaurant has sadly shared that it will now be shuttering.

“With heavy hearts, we announce that MS BBQ & Dakgalbi will be closing its doors after service on May 11th,” the restaurant said in an Instagram post.

“Thank you to everyone who’s supported us along the way — whether you dined with us once or became a regular, we are truly grateful.”

Makchang Dodook was known for its jail-themed interior, but its latest iteration not only offered eats but also some games inspired by the hit TV show Squid Game.

There are two more Makchang Dodook locations across Canada, one in Edmonton and one in Coquitlam, B.C. Neither currently appears to be impacted by the closure at this time.
