It’s the end of an era, but the beginning of another, as one of Calgary’s most beloved bakeries is set to close its original location.

Crave Cupcakes revealed that it will be closing its Kensington outpost in July, after two decades in the space on Kensington Road NW.

“After 20 years sharing countless cupcakes, celebrations, and memories, we’re closing the doors to our very first Crave bakery in Kensington and saying goodbye in July,” Crave said in an Instagram post.

Crave, which was founded by Albertan sisters Carolyne McIntyre Jackson and Jodi Willoughby, first opened its Kensington store in 2004. Since then, it has grown to a mammoth operation, with locations across Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon and soon Kelowna.

While the Kensington location is a nostalgic one for Calgarians, when one door closes, another opens, as they say.

Just a few minutes away in Hillhurst, Crave also shared the exciting announcement that it would be opening a Calgary outpost of its new concept, CeCe’s Coffee.

Fans of Crave’s cupcakes and sweet treats will be pleased to hear that the new concept will still serve their favourites, alongside coffee, tea and a fresh cafe menu.

This will be the second CeCe’s location in the country, with the first due to open in Kelowna on June 25. Calgary’s own CeCe’s Coffee is slated to open in mid-August.

Stay tuned for updates on this exciting new concept!
