Every Calgarian knows that the Calgary Stampede means free breakfasts aplenty all over the city in a tradition that dates back over a century. This year, one of the city’s most popular pancake breakfasts will be looking to break a world record.

The CF Chinook Centre has been hosting its annual pancake breakfast for 65 years, and to celebrate the highly anticipated event, it’s takingĀ things up a notch, aiming to secure the Guinness World Record for the most pancakes served.

More than 25,000 people are expected to attend the free breakfast, which will include pancakes and all the fixings. However, the more people whoĀ attend the event will help the Calgary mall clinch the record.

While the pancake breakfast is running from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., Calgarians will be able to see whether the record was achieved at noon with an awards ceremony.

The huge Stampede breakfast will also see live entertainment, family-friendly activities and an outdoor retail market.

Ahead of the breakfast, the mall will also be hosting a pancake stacking contest on Friday, July 4. Teams will be competing to stack 65 pancakes with the “Wheel of Disadvantage,” adding some challenges such as stacking with oven mitts on or one-handed. The winning team will secure $2,000 to donate to a charity of their choice.
