Nearly 2,000 new homes planned for growing city east of Calgary

Chestermere is set for a major housing boost, with nearly 2,000 homes planned for a brand-new master-planned neighbourhood in the city.
On Monday, Ontario-based Mattamy Homes announced a partnership with Truman to bring an approximately 1,900-home neighbourhood to the City of Chestermere. The deal officially closed on Jan. 20, 2026. The two builders will co-manage the development, with Mattamy serving as the managing partner.
The neighbourhood will span across 253 acres and feature a mix of single-family, semi-detached, townhomes and multi-family apartment buildings. Residents will also have access to commercial retail conveniences, park spaces, more than 10 acres of environmental reserve, and two storm ponds located in the neighbourhood.
“Chestermere is an exciting market for us, and we’re pleased to be returning after a decade away,” said Collin Campbell, president of Mattamy’s Alberta Division, in a release.

The neighbourhood will be located south of Chestermere Lake, with Rainbow Road as its west boundary and Township Road 240 along the south. The design is centred around a lake-inspired lifestyle, making it easy for residents to enjoy Chestermere Lake and nearby amenities.
Development approvals for the project are expected in Spring 2027, with home construction anticipated to begin in Summer 2028. The first residents are expected to move in by early 2029, and the full community is projected to be complete by late 2029.
“This collaboration strengthens what we can offer the city and its residents. Working alongside Mattamy also opens the door to future opportunities where our shared values can continue to benefit the community,” said George Trutina, president of Truman.
This new neighbourhood isn’t the only new development coming to Calgary and its surrounding areas. A new Fairmont hotel was announced earlier this year, and construction is underway on a new hotel at Stampede Park.
