Most commercials are easy to forget — they’re boring, repetitive, and standing between you and whatever show/sporting event/YouTube video you were watching.
However, on that rare occasion, there are commercials that actually pull you to the edge of your seat by mesmerizing you with stunning visuals or a sweet story. This is no small accomplishment for a video that may only be a minute or two long.

The creators of these ads get their much-deserved kudos at the Cannes Lions International Festival for Creativity, a festival known as the Oscars for commercials.
The National Advertising Benevolent Society (NABS) West, in partnership with The Globe and Mail, is hosting a screening of the Cannes Lions 2018 award winners at Calgary’s cSpace King Edward on December 6.
Viewers will have the chance to take in the short — though no less sweet — works of the advertising industry from the comfort of movie theatre seats, with the 126 minutes of award-winning advertisements play on the big screen.
Some of these commercials include the famous “It’s a Tide Ad” from Tide, “Unlock” from Apple, and Taco Bell’s “Web of Fries.”
The screening will be bookended by a cocktail social both before and after, giving attendees the opportunity to network with professionals from the advertising, media, and broadcast industries.
The Cannes Reel also acts as a fundraiser, with nabs West having donated over a quarter of a million dollars to those in the media, agency, and communications industries, as well as over $50,000 towards support lines for counselling and other specialized programs in Alberta alone.
Money from the December screening will go towards supporting those who may be struggling in the media industry.
