You can watch your favourite Christmas movies in theatres this holiday season

It’s the most wonderful time of the year.

The holidays are just around the corner, and with them comes the joy of watching Christmas movies.

And this year, Cineplex will be screening some of the best Christmas classics on the big screen.

Starting this month, moviegoers can enjoy the holiday season by cozying up with The Nutcracker (Bolshoi Ballet), Home Alone, The Polar Express and Die Hard, among others.

The films will be playing at select theatres across Canada starting November 17.

Here’s a rundown of the upcoming Christmas movies and their screening dates:

Home Alone – A Family Favourites Presentation

A true holiday favourite, this beloved comedy classic is festive fun for the whole family. Macaulay Culkin stars as Kevin McCallister, an eight-year-old boy who is accidentally left behind when his family flies to Paris for their Christmas vacation. At first, Kevin enjoys his newfound independence but soon has to defend his home against two bumbling burglars’ attempts to break-in.

Elf – A Family Favourites Presentation

Buddy (Will Ferrell) was accidentally transported to the North Pole as a toddler and raised to adulthood among Santa’s elves. Unable to shake the feeling that he doesn’t fit in, the adult Buddy travels to New York, in full elf uniform, in search of his real father. As it happens, this is Walter Hobbs (James Caan), a cynical businessman. After a DNA test proves this, Walter reluctantly attempts to start a relationship with the childlike Buddy with increasingly chaotic results.

Polar Express 3D – A Family Favourites Presentation

Based on the classic Christmas story by Chris Van Allsburg, The Polar Express tells the story of a young boy who embarks on an inspiring adventure to the North Pole aboard an extraordinary train – The Polar Express. On his journey, he learns about friendship, bravery and the true spirit of Christmas.

Die Hard – One Nighters @ VIP

New York City policeman John McClane (Bruce Willis) is visiting his estranged wife (Bonnie Bedelia) and two daughters on Christmas Eve. He joins her at a holiday party in the headquarters of the Japanese-owned business she works for. The festivities are interrupted by a group of terrorists who take over the exclusive high-rise, and everyone in it. Very soon McClane realizes that there’s no one to save the hostages but him.

This winter, laugh and sing along with your favourite CBeebies stars at the interactive CBeebies Christmas Show! The makers of Alice in Wonderland, A Christmas Carol and Snow Queen will delight audiences this year with the classic tale of Thumbelina. This year’s Christmas Show recreates the live Thumbelina performance on the big screen and includes an exclusive, additional show made for cinema audiences only starring the much-loved Justin Fletcher (Something Special) in “Justin’s Countdown to Christmas”.

It’s A Wonderful Life – Classic Films

After George Bailey (James Stewart) wishes he had never been born, an angel (Henry Travers) is sent to earth to make George’s wish come true. George starts to realize how many lives he has changed and impacted, and how they would be different if he was never there.

Bolshoi Ballet: The Nutcracker – Dance

This classic tale tells the story of Marie, a young girl whose wooden nutcracker doll mysteriously transforms into a beautiful prince on Christmas Eve. They embark on a magical journey through an enchanting dreamscape of fantastic creatures, places and events before finally arriving at the palace of the beautiful Sugar Plum Fairy. Danced by the Bolshoi’s principals, Russian ballet master Yuri Grigorovich’s staging of E. T. A. Hoffmann’s fairy tale will transport children and adults alike to a world of magic and wonder for the holiday season.
