Huge two-storey 165,000 sq. ft. Walmart Supercentre in the works for Calgary

A massive new Walmart is coming to Calgary, and it’s taking over a pretty familiar spot at Southcentre Mall.
Walmart Canada has announced plans to relocate its existing location at 9650 Macleod Trl. SE to the former Hudson’s Bay space at Calgary’s Southcentre Mall, bringing a new two-storey Supercentre to the shopping centre.
Spanning approximately 165,000 sq. ft., the new store will become an anchor tenant at Southcentre Mall, located at the intersection of Macleod Trail and Anderson Road.
The store will feature a full grocery section with fresh produce, meat, seafood, baked goods, dairy products, and more, alongside general merchandise like fashion, home goods, electronics, and health and wellness products.

It will also include a Walmart Pharmacy, a Walmart Vision Centre, and convenient pickup and delivery services, giving southeast shoppers access to a range of everyday essentials under one roof.
“Our relocation to Southcentre Mall marks important progress in how we’re evolving to better serve our customers in Calgary,” said Shawn Fujiki, senior director of real estate at Walmart Canada, in a release.
“This new Supercentre will help bring even more convenient access to our customers in South Calgary, welcoming them to our one-stop shop within the Southcentre Mall.”
While there is no timeline yet for when the existing Macleod Trail location will close, the new Walmart Supercentre is expected to open in 2028.
This isn’t the only grocery store in the works in and around Calgary. A new FreshCo location was announced for Calgary earlier this month, and a new Real Canadian Superstore location is opening just west of Calgary in Tsuut’ina Nation this fall.
