A vast majority in Alberta have officially voted against a binding referendum on separating from Canada, with roughly 75 per cent voting to remain part of the country.
While most voters made their position clear, one in four Albertans still supported taking the next step toward separation, with support varying across the province.
So, which parts of Alberta were most in favour of remaining in Canada, and where was support for a referendum the strongest?
Here are the five Alberta ridings with the highest and lowest support for separation, based on the most recent results.
Note: Edmonton-Manning currently has the highest share of votes in favour of remaining in Canada at 92 per cent. However, with only one of its 59 voting areas counted as of 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, we’re looking at ridings where counting is complete or close to being complete.
