Calgary named one of Canada's most affordable travel destinations
If you’re looking to travel without breaking the bank, Calgary has landed on a list of affordable Canadian destinations worth checking out for your next getaway.
The city was featured in a new Travel + Leisure roundup highlighting several places across the country where travellers can enjoy a vacation without spending too much.
Calgary made the cut thanks to the one and only Calgary Stampede, its proximity to the Rocky Mountains, and its reputation as one of Canada’s more affordable major cities.

While the city is more expensive than Edmonton, Travel + Leisure notes that Calgary is still an affordable option for travellers, especially those hoping to explore the mountains.
The city is a convenient starting point for trips to Kananaskis Country, which is roughly an hour away. Travellers can enjoy the Rocky Mountains without necessarily paying the prices that come with staying in Banff.
For anyone planning a winter trip, Travel + Leisure also points to Nakiska as a more budget-friendly alternative to some of the ski resorts around Banff, like Lake Louise and Mount Norquay. The resort is just over an hour from Calgary, making it an easy option for a day on the slopes.

Calgary also has direct flights from several U.S. cities, making it an accessible destination for American travellers looking to get away.
Calgary wasn’t the only Alberta destination to make the list. Edmonton also made the cut, thanks to its many festivals and outdoor activities.
Other destinations on the list include the east coast of Vancouver Island, Quebec’s Eastern Townships, Hamilton, Whitehorse, and Winnipeg.

Calgary is no stranger to the spotlight and has picked up a handful of accolades this year, including being named the best city to work and play in Canada and landing among the 100 happiest cities in the world.
