4 longtime Calgary restaurants that have closed recently

The restaurant industry in Calgary can be fickle and – once again – the city’s dining scene has suffered some casualties.

Chop Steakhouse & Bar in Chinook Centre has closed after serving up Calgarians for a decade. The restaurant was tucked into the mall near the Scotiabank Theatre side of the centre. It featured a spacious interior and an airy rooftop patio.

Nellie’s Cosmic Cafe (Daily Hive)

Nellie’s Cosmic Cafe permanently closed after two decades of business on the popular Calgary street. The 1001 17 Avenue SW spot was known for its kitschy, eclectic decor and classic breakfast fare.

The downtown restaurant, located at 111 8 Avenue SW, has been one of YYC’s top dining destinations for almost 13 years. Blink owners, who also run sister spots Bar Annabelle and Annabelle’s Kitchen, opened a downtown location of that concept.

Buon Giorno Ristorante Italiano has closed its doors for good, the 17th Ave BIA confirmed to Daily Hive. The 823 17 Avenue SW Calgary eatery was a staple in YYC’s dining scene, and it had been operating since 1987.
