A longtime spot for steak in South Calgary has quietly permanently shuttered.

Chop Steakhouse & Bar in Chinook Centre has closed after serving up Calgarians for a decade.

The restaurant was tucked into the mall near the Scotiabank Theatre side of the centre. It featured a spacious interior and an airy rooftop patio.

In a statement published online, Chop’s President Marcel Blais cited the pandemic as the reason for the closure.

As we safely begin to re-open Chop Steakhouse & Bar locations across Canada, we have unfortunately had to make some difficult decisions due to the impact of the pandemic to some of our locations. It is with a heavy heart that I announce we have made the tough decision to permanently close Chop Steakhouse & Bar in Chinook Centre.

If you are a fan of Chop and still want to get in of its signature grub you can head to the next nearest location at 33 Hopewell Way in NE Calgary.
