6 Calgary Flames who could be moved before trade deadline

Mar 4 2026, 8:02 pm

The trade deadline is roughly 48 hours away, and plenty of eyes are monitoring the Calgary Flames.

Playoffs are well out of the question for the Flames, who sit seventh in the Pacific Division with a 24-29-7 record. As a result, they are being viewed as sellers and have a number of players to keep an eye on.

The Flames don’t have a ton of pending UFAs on their roster, meaning that GM Craig Conroy doesn’t need to make any moves. That said, fans should be expecting some action, and shouldn’t at all be caught off guard to see one, or perhaps a number of the names below shipped out of town.

Blake Coleman

  • Age: 34
  • Position: LW/RW
  • Contract: $4.9 million through 2026-27
  • 2025-26 stats: 48 GP, 13 G, 9 A, 22 PTS

Though things can change quickly, Blake Coleman feels like the most likely player on this Flames roster to be traded. There have been several teams rumoured to be in on the 34-year-old, including the Tampa Bay Lightning, with whom he won two Stanley Cups.

Coleman brings a bit of everything to the table, from leadership to secondary scoring. He’s a player that the Flames aren’t excited to part ways with, though doing so would be the right decision given that this team is years away from contending.

Nazem Kadri

  • Age: 35
  • Position: C
  • Contract: $7 million through 2028-29
  • 2025-26 stats: 60 GP, 12 G, 29 A, 41 PTS

It was recently reported that Nazem Kadri had informed the Flames he would like to be traded. It doesn’t appear to be based on any bitterness, but more so a veteran player seeing that he’s much more likely to win elsewhere.

Since that report, Kadri’s name has been near the top of all trade boards. While still a very valuable player, his contract could make things tricky for Conroy when it comes to getting a deal done. If one fails to occur before the deadline, fans should expect to see it revisited in the summer.

Ryan Lomberg

  • Age: 31
  • Position: LW/RW
  • Contract: $2 million, pending UFA
  • 2025-26 stats: 52 GP, 4 G, 5 A, 9 PTS

Teams hoping to go on a run that are in search of some locker room morale could do far worse than Ryan Lomberg. The 31-year-old has been a dressing room favourite in Calgary since signing as a free agent ahead of the 2024-25 campaign.

Given that Lomberg is a pending UFA, the chances of him heading out the door are quite likely. The harsh reality of the situation, however, is that his lack of offence won’t see the Flames be able to acquire much more than a mid-round draft pick in exchange.

Brayden Pachal

  • Age: 26
  • Position: D
  • Contract: $1.118 through 2026-27
  • 2025-26 stats: 27 GP, 0 G, 3 A, 3 PTS

One can’t help but wonder if Brayden Pachal would be happy to be traded at this point. After seemingly establishing himself as a solid bottom-pairing option in 2024-25, he’s dressed in just 27 of the Flames’ 60 games this season.

Pachal is nothing more than a depth defender, but his low cap hit is enough to generate some interest. At this point, the Flames would likely take anything they could get in order to free up a roster spot for next season.

Zach Whitecloud

  • Age: 29
  • Position: D
  • Contract: $2.75 million through 2027-28
  • 2025-26 stats: 59 GP, 2 G, 9 A, 11 PTS

When the Flames first acquired Zach Whitecloud in the Rasmus Andersson deal, the expectation was that he would be flipped again before the trade deadline. Things have changed since.

Whitecloud’s dedication to Calgary despite his short time in the city has really impressed both management and fans. Considering this organization has had trouble keeping players around in the past, holding onto one who wants to be here so bad may not be the worst decision.

Joel Hanley

  • Age: 34
  • Position: D
  • Contract: $1.75 million through 2026-27
  • 2025-26 stats: 57 GP, 0 G, 7 A, 7 PTS

If the Flames are to move out a depth defenceman before the trade deadline, Pachal is the likely option. That said, if the interest simply isn’t there, you can’t help but wonder if they’d move Joel Hanley instead.

Hanley, albeit the better of the two, is also a depth defenceman. In fact, the 57 games he’s played in this season mark a career high at the NHL level. Should he be moved, the return would be minimal.
