A Calgary road is set to reopen soon after over a year of construction
A Calgary road project is nearing completion, with all six lanes of Country Hills Boulevard NE expected to reopen later this month.
Construction has been underway for more than a year, bringing several changes to the busy northeast Calgary corridor.
The $19-million project began in May 2025, with crews removing overhead wires and poles, adding new underground lines, building a temporary detour road, installing deep utilities, and installing a new water line before moving on to road construction in April 2026.

The project widened about 800 metres of Country Hill Boulevard between Barlow Trail and 36th Street NE. It also included new sidewalks and pathways, storm drains, street lighting, and upgraded intersections with traffic signals.
According to the City of Calgary, the first half of the new road opened in July, allowing traffic to move off the temporary detour. The second half is expected to be completed this month, opening all six lanes to traffic.

The City says the project is designed to improve traffic flow and road safety while preparing the area for future growth. The widened road will also provide safer travel for drivers and emergency services travelling through the area.
While road construction is set to wrap up, the City says crews will finish work on lights, sidewalks and trees in October 2026; however, weather and site conditions could affect the timeline.
