Calgary Mexican restaurant to close this month after four years

Calgary has said goodbye to a fair few eateries over the course of 2025. Now, we have another closure: Calavera Cantina revealed it is set to close this month after four years.
Calavera Cantina, a McKenzie Towne staple for Latin-inspired eats from tacos to tostadas, has shared that it will officially be closing its doors on April 19.
“We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the community for all your support over the years. Itās been an incredible journey, and weāre so grateful for every guest who walked through our doors,” the restaurant said in a social media post.

Calavera Cantina, which is owned by the Starbelly Group behind restaurants including The Beltliner, Starbelly Open Kitchen & Lounge, and the Pink Door Pizza Food Truck, first opened its doors in 2021.
Its menu takes inspiration from Mexico and Latin America, offering a wide selection of appetizers, salads, and sharables, as well as nine different taco fillings.
The spot also offers many margarita varieties, including its signature concoctions, margaritas on tap and even a margarita tree to share with pals.
Calavera’s location also served as a ghost kitchen for Pink Door Pizza. However, the spot shared that it will still be cooking up its famous pies from its food truck over the summer, as well as hinting that there are some exciting things on the way.
For fans of Calavera Cantina, there is still plenty of time to plan a final visit.
